
Missing toddler at center of AMBER Alert found dead, police say

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN/Gray News) - A man was arrested after leading officers on a chase where he reached speeds of 130 mph, according to police.Michael Hawks, 24, was arrested early Sunday.Deputies attempted a traffic stop after Hawks was clocked at 81 mph in a 60 mph zone on Highway 11 in Lenoir County, North Carolina.Hawks did not pull over and attempted to evade law enforcement, authorities said.He reached speeds exceeding 130 mph, authorities said.Deputies were able to end the chase in front of the Eastern Correctional Institution in Greene County, North Carolina.Hawks was arrested and taken to W.E. Smith Detention Center. He is charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, speeding, reckless driving to endanger, failing to heed a light or siren, unsafe passing, driving left of center, failing to maintain lane control, unsafe lane change and unsafe movement.Hawks received a $50,000 secured bond and is expected in court Monday.
